Cyprus Half Marathon & 10 km / Sunday 14th March 2010

The Cyprus Marathon is scheduled for Sunday 14th March 2010. Start times are:

  • Marathon: 08:30 hrs
  • Half Marathon: 09:15 hrs
  • 10km: 09:30 hrs

The average temperature in March is between 9°C - 20°C. Humidity is low. The minimum ages for event entries are:

  • Marathon: 18 years
  • Half marathon: 16 years
  • 10km Road Race: 15 years

A 5 hour time limit will be imposed on the Marathon event and a 3-hour limit for the half marathon. The event will be conducted in accordance with the Cyprus Amateur Athletics Federation (KOEAS), and the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) rules.

The Cyprus Association of Sports Medicine will offer full medical support throughout the event. Post-race physiotherapy care/advise will also be offered for those athletes needing such treatment.

All participants are strongly encouraged to take out suitable personal cover for injury, damage or loss of equipment. The organisers will not be liable for such incidents as a result of either participation in, or attendance at the event.

Ample quantities of KEO beer, KEO juices and SAINT NICHOLAS mineral water will be offered free of charge after the race.

Friday 12 March: 16:00 - 19:00 hrs

Course

The Marathon will be run over an almost flat course, reducing considerably traffic and marshalling problems. The starting point will be from Petra tou Romiou (Legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, Goddess of love and beauty) finishing with a long section of road on the Pafos seafront at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort square. The course is clearly marked at every kilometer and water / sponge stations ISOSTAR energy drinks are manned at regular intervals (every three kilometers). 

The Marathon runners will be transferred by buses (free of charge) on Sunday 14th March at 7:00 am from the Pafos Mediaeval Fort Square to Petra tou Romiou. The Greek name, Petra tou Romiou "The Rock of the Greek" is associated with the legendary frontier-guard of Byzantine times Digenis Akritas, who kept the marauding Saracens at bay with amazing strength. It is said that he heaved this large rock into the sea destroying the enemy's ship. 

The Cyprus Half Marathon & 10 km races will be an out and back course starting and finishing at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort Square nearby the Pafos fishing harbour. Once again on flat asphalt surfaced road of the final part of the Marathon course.

Groups of volunteer marshals will assist in guiding runners throughout the course. The Pafos Police will also keep a watchful eye on runners, thereby, ensuring their safety. Effective traffic control/management is assured.
